Japanese Monkey Relief Jardiniere

A fine Japanese terracotta jardinière of substantial presence, rendered in high relief with exceptional sculptural detail. The vessel draws inspiration from celebrated Meiji-period bronze prototypes, presenting a composition of naturalistically modeled macaque monkeys in repose among deeply veined foliate forms that traverse the rim with botanical precision. The modeling throughout demonstrates the hand of a skilled artisan—each simian figure and leaf vein articulated with considerable care and dimensional depth characteristic of quality Japanese ceramics of the twentieth century.
